In our wishlist of activities to do around Bangkok, there was the province of Samut Prakan, at just a 45mn drive from home.
On a sunny Saturday, for Gaspard’s birthday, we drove to 3 different places we wanted to visit for a long time:
Erawan museum

This rather original museum was the first stop of our day. It’s a massive 3-headed elephant statue that stands on a huge pedestal. It is made out of pure copper and weighs 250 tonnes!
Around the structure, there is a little cute park with elephants and sculptures everywhere
Inside, it’s just getting better. The interior of the building itself is covered in pink paint and golden
If you want to have a picture with no one around you are going to have to wait for the perfect opportunity, because of course these amazing colors do attract a lot of “Instagram models”

Ancient City / Ancient Siam
Ancient Siam really was on our bucket list. It is basically a park in the shape of Thailand, composed of the country’s most remarkable landmarks. The 320 hectare city is composed of no less than 116 structures making it, the largest outdoor museum in the world.
The place was imagined and built by Lek Viriyaphant, an eccentric Thai billionaire who was passionated by arts and culture.

The park is so huge, you can actually rent golf carts to get around. Because it was so hot outside, we did not want to ride a bike (which you can also rent from there) and we opted for the funnier option
The city is composed of many temples, all of them being very different, and from different parts of the country.
There are also several lakes and parks all around. It’s like Disneyland for adults, without the roller coasters and in a Thai world!
The two highlights really were the two last temples, and looking at them with the new drone gave a crazy perspective!

Wat Asokaram
The last step for the day was a stop at Wat Asokaram, yet another temple, just outside the city and on our trip back to Bangkok.
All white and with another architecture, it almost looks like it is out of somewhere in India!

At just a few kilometers from Bangkok, Samut Prakan province has a lot to offer, touristically and photography wise.
We definitely recommend renting a car and spending the day in these different locations!
